Caulking and Silicone
The difference between a caulk and a sealant is elasticity. Caulks are quite rigid once dry and are intended for use in areas with minimal expansion and contraction. Sealants are made from flexible materials -most commonly silicone – making them ideal for areas prone to expansion and contraction.
Silicone is commonly used as a sealant to prevent the passage of water and air. Common types of silicone sealants are acetoxy cure, oxime cure, and alcoxy cure. Acetoxy cure is ideal for internal uses, whereas oxime and alcoxy are good for external applications.
